Nemko, Inc., a world class leading product safety testing and certification corporation, needed a fresh re-vamp of their Drupal intranet based documentation platform to increase overall staff performance and efficiency. The process involved transitioning the old NAQA system into a more effective NGQA setup that encapsulated a sweeping round of necessary company wide documentation updates.
Prototyping and wireframing starts by identifying the most critical usability focus; developing the visual landing page process workflows necessary to make navigating to the desired documentation as easy as possible.
This was followed up with implementing corporate style guide color schemes, typography, logos, and other branding elements to create a real sense of what the users will expect upon production deployment. Multiple iterations of navigation placement and buttons had to be fully fleshed out to best suit the staff’s ideal standards.
With the core design, aesthetics, and overall tone achieved through multiple iterations of various approaches, a consensus was established and put into code form through a custom Drupal theme. Successful coordination with the Norway based IT department lead to a challenging but ultimately highly effective full production environment launch.
Successfully hitting all previous sprint deadlines and goals on time, we moved into a support oriented post production phase. This means offering on demand UI/UX recommendations, custom site functionality, and staff training through a custom designed training manual for all essential administrative user functions like adding new content, managing it, and moderating it within a team of editors.
The Stanford Residential Dining and Enterprises division of the university provides assistance for their students and staff which encompasses housing, dining, auxiliary services and campus conferences. Their student/staff facing website needed a complete design and development rebuild for modernization, better efficiency, proper management and accessibility for all users. The solution? I created and delivered a 5 phase plan to handle all the necessary project expectations which includes Onboarding, Wireframe Development, Comp Design, Drupal Development, and finally Post Launch Maintenance.
Prototyping and wireframing begins. This includes the original website environment review, pre-wireframe development, home page creation, global header/footer, and housing department conceptualization.
Once the wireframes are fully completed and approved, I moved into the Design Comp phase. During that time our team conducted weekly SCRUM meetings highlighting necessary tasks where I did template reviews and discussed the home page/global elements development.
The local install of their proprietary development environment is underway I and begin the discussions for general planning and strategies team wide. That moves into core Drupal theming adding necessary requested nodes to the CMS and building out the main menu system. That transitions into developing a solid launch schedule and testing phase transition for the Stanford R&DE team to completely take over operations moving forward.
With the site fully deployed and live, I continue checking in with the team to ensure there are no issues or anything needing assistance on my end but everything is good to go. We established from that point that their team can handle overall maintenance and I would continue being on call for handling any further issues outside their control if necessary. Overall, the project was a major success in coordinating a simple freelancer with a major university’s IT team to complete what turned out to be quite an extensive website.
